This link takes you to the Secondary Transition services portion of their website, which will assist students with disabilities gain resources and support for college. The Mississippi Department of Education is the state education agency of Mississippi. The Office of Special Education (OSE) is a service-oriented office that seeks to improve the education experience for children with disabilities. In keeping with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and State law, they help local schools and districts provide effective educational programs to students with disabilities, ages 3-20, who need special education and related services. Pre-Employment Transition Services
Pre-Employment Transition Services (Pre-ETS) is for high school students with disabilities ages 14-21 to assist in transitioning to work or post-secondary education. Pre-ETS focuses on 5 areas: Job Exploration Counseling, Workplace Readiness Training, Work-Based Learning Experiences, Transition Counseling, and Self-Advocacy. Post-Secondary Services
MDRS program to assist students with disabilities further their education by providing tuition/textbook cost assistance, distance learning, dormitory fees, individual counseling, and connections to other community resources.

Woodward Hines Education Foundation help Mississippians obtain postsecondary degree, certification, or credential that will allow them to improve their quality of life, strengthen their communities, and contribute to a bright and prosperous future for all of Mississippi. They work towards postsecondary education being accessible, achievable, and successful for all Mississippians. Get 2 College is Woodward Hines Education Foundation’s access to college program which specifically helps students get into college.

Job readiness program. The Workforce Team at PRCC has several regularly occurring non-credit courses that are ideal for helping a young adult gain employment. The University of Southern Mississippi RISE to the Top!

The RISE To The Top! Southern Miss program has existed as an official pilot program at the University since 2020 and has only focused on visiting students. The full program will be a 4-year, 8-semester inclusive non-degree program that incorporates academics, employment, independent living, service, and social/leisure activities. Program specifics include application to Student Accessibility Services; enrollment in a class(es) each semester; peer mentors; employment-focused internships; service involvement; and any other current student benefits at the University. Upon program completion, students will participate in the university’s spring commencement ceremony. This program is a partnership between the USM School of Interdisciplinary Studies and Professional Development and the Institute for Disability Studies. |
